I remember times when ICQ was the only instant messenger in the world. Everything was easy and simple those days: just one number to remember (your UIN). Now there are lots of instant messengers. Some better, some worse. Normally I use Skype but for some purposes I have to run MSN messenger most of the time.

Last two weeks MSN messenger started to disconnect frequently. Last two days it could connect at all. I use recent version (6.0.3), which was released by Microsoft last year and there are no updates.

Since I truly have to use MSN, I went to Internet searching for solution to connection problems. The first link that I found recommended using aMSN instead of Microsoft's MSN messenger. I downloaded it, installed, entered my e-mail address/password and... And it connected immediately. So I am going to remove Microsoft's crap version and use aMSN from now on.

One another advantage of aMSN is that it does not prompt me for corporate contact login. Microsoft's version insisted on it and it was trully annoying. There is no way to tell to Microsoft's MSN messenger that I do not have corporate contact. But it always prompts me to enter it when started.

So I really like another open source product: aMSN. Open source beat closed source once more.

Ah, well, Audium is good (especially its Mascot) but I really need only MSN messenger and no other protocol :)

May be I will try it after I come back from Moscow next week.
